The exhaust fan on your roof is the last stop for grease-laden air. Even with regular duct cleaning, some grease makes it all the way through and gets blown out onto the roof surface. In a busy kitchen, that can be gallons of grease over the course of a year. It creates a slip hazard for anyone working on the roof, it degrades the roofing membrane, and it can run into roof drains or over the edge onto walls and sidewalks.
Rooftop grease containment service includes cleaning the exterior of the fan housing, scraping and pressure washing the grease buildup around the fan base, and cleaning the affected roof area. If the grease has spread across a large section of roof, we treat it with degreaser and pressure wash it down. We contain and collect the runoff — we don't just wash it into the drain or over the edge. All grease and wastewater are hauled off-site.

Some jurisdictions and some landlords require grease containment systems — usually a metal pan under the fan or a filter box on the fan discharge. If you don't have one and you're required to, we can fabricate and install it. If you have one and it's full, we empty and clean it. Containment pans need to be cleaned at least annually, sometimes more often depending on your cooking volume.
This service is usually done at the same time as the exhaust system cleaning, since we're already on the roof accessing the fan. If your roof is heavily soiled, it may take an extra hour. We'll let you know after we see it the first time. Some roofs have years of buildup that takes multiple passes to remove completely — in that case, we'll get the worst of it on the first visit and finish it on the next cleaning.
